It seems that the flag of the United States has become something of a commodity. Various groups claim ownership of the emblem, feeling that their point of view is more "American" than those whose vision differs from theirs. Others have changed the original design of the flag to advocate a their particular cause.
I noticed this flag hanging on the porch of an old, unoccupied farmhouse in rural Michigan one day. It was presented as its designers intended, and was accompanied by no messaging or other symbolism. It simply seemed to say "here is one little part of America."
