"Writing with light"...the literal meaning and the essence of photography. Yet the absence of that light, or at least the apparent insufficiency of it, makes the night a wonderful time in which to make photographs.

Unimportant details are lost in the shadows. The subject of the photograph becomes more clear. It is why O. Winston Link chose to photograph trains at night.
