Dawn; Bond Falls Flowage
Dawn; Bond Falls Flowage
Kallitype

Bond Falls is one of dozens of waterfalls in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Many years ago a cooperative electric utility purchased the falls and the land around it, on which they constructed a dam. Some of the water from the lake, or "flowage" created by the dam is diverted to a hydroelectric power plant twenty or so miles away.

Even though this project was constructed on private land, the Upper Peninsula Power Company allowed people to walk the trails around the falls, use the flowage for fishing and boating, and permitted camping around its shores.

I first went there with my family when I was young, and took my own children there in later years. Last summer (2023) my daughter and I were able to share this Michigan natural wonder with my grandchildren.

Bond Falls will always have a special place in my wandering heart.
